John Huston is a partner in the firm's Chicago office. John is experienced in all areas of tort litigation with special concentration on complex products liability, and architects' and engineers' professional liability. He also represents clients in commercial cases that involve technology issues. He has cross-examined over 100 technical experts in a wide variety of products liability and professional liability cases.
In addition to his 30 years as a trial attorney, John has also served as General Counsel for Professional Service Industries, Inc., the nation's largest independent engineering testing company. In that position, he managed a substantial number of professional liability cases, most of which involved construction practices and construction materials including asbestos and other environmental testing. He also served as counsel to senior management on a broad range of legal subjects including employment issues, contracts, and liability reduction. In the military, John served in an engineering support position for both the NATO (2nd) and Mediterranean (6th) Fleet Admirals as well as teaching engineering at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in the Nuclear Power Program.
John is a member of the Defense Research Institute. He also serves as Certified Panel Chairman for the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration Program and is a member of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel. John has lectured on litigation and technology subjects for the Defense Research Institute, Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel, the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, and the National Business Institute.
Additionally, John has been recognized as one of the top civil litigation defense attorneys in Illinois for the past three years, most recently in the February 2007 issue of Chicago magazine, as well as the 2007 Illinois Super Lawyers magazine. John has recently been recognized by his peers as a Leading Lawyer in a survey by Law Bulletin Publishing Company and listed on LeadingLawyers.com.
John received his undergraduate degrees from Yale University in Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering (with honors) and his law degree from Loyola University of Chicago. He is licensed and practices in both state and federal courts and is admitted to the Federal Trial Bar of the Northern District of Illinois.
John is a member and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the VanderCook College of Music and has played jazz classics in the Chicago Federal Court House with Federal Circuit Court Judge, Blanche Manning.
