James Knox is a partner in the Chicago office. He focuses his practice on fidelity, surety, insurance, commercial and construction law and has extensive negotiation, trial and appellate experience.
Jim is a past chair of the Fidelity and Surety Committee of the Defense Research Institute. For five years, Jim served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Fidelity and Surety Digest, a publication of the Fidelity and Surety Law Committee of the Torts and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association. Jim is also active in the National Bond Claims Association, the Surety Claims Institute, the Chicago Surety Claims Association and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.
Jim lectures on topics in his practice areas frequently and has published over 35 published articles and book chapters, including, most recently, Recovery of Loss, Financial Institution Bonds (3d Ed. Nov. 2008) with Mark Kriegel, and Recent Developments in Fidelity Law, with Tom McNeil and Lisa Coplen, Vol. 43, Tort Trial & Ins. Prac. L.J. (2008).
Jim was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1987. He is admitted to the Northern District of Illinois (including the Trial Bar), the Eastern District of Michigan, the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the Western District of Oklahoma, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. He received a B.A. in English and History from Southern Methodist University and a J.D. from the University of Texas where he was an Editor of the Texas International Law Journal.
Additionally, Jim has been recognized as one of the top insurance coverage attorneys in Illinois, most recently in the February 2008 issue of Chicago magazine, as well as Illinois Super Lawyers® magazine.
