Lara A. Anderson

Ms. Anderson graduated with honors from Northern Illinois University with a B.S. in Accounting in 1989, passed the CPA exam and then graduated from Northern Illinois University’s College of Law in 1992. Lara began her legal career representing local, state and federal public officials and public entities as well as not-for-profit organizations in complex constitutional and civil rights matters before administrative agencies and in state and federal courts. She eventually transitioned her practice into representing just condominium and common interest community associations. During her career, Lara has had the opportunity to argue before the Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit twice and, most recently she represented a homeowners association before the Indiana Supreme Court. In that case, Villas West II v. McGlothin, 885 N.E.2d 1274 (2008), Ms. Anderson convinced the Indiana Supreme Court to reverse the lower and hold that the association’s rental restrictions did not violate the Fair Housing Act.

Ms. Anderson is currently a member of the Board of Directors of CAI-Illinois, the Chairperson of the Public Relations Committee for CAI-Illinois and a member of the Committee for Community Development for CAI-Illinois. She is considered an expert in the field and is frequently asked to speak before various groups on association issues. Lara has been a presenter at the last three CAI-Illinois State Conventions and has received accreditation as a CLE speaker in Illinois. She has written numerous articles that have appeared in a variety of publications and is the editor of the firm’s Condominium and Community Association Law Newsletter.

Lara is a member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the DuPage County Bar Association and the Will County Bar Association. She is licensed to practice in Illinois, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
