Jim Murray has more than 23 years of experience as an attorney practicing in insurance services, first and third-party liability insurance coverage, oil and gas coverage, professional liability coverage, construction defect coverage, automobile liability coverage, bad faith, complex environmental and toxic tort coverage and advertising and personal injury coverage.
In his insurance practice, Jim’s representative experience includes successfully defending, in both the trial court and on appeal, a major GL insurer against a claim that the insurer’s notice of an environmental claim from one potentially responsible party constituted notice on behalf of another insured that was also a potentially responsible party at the waste site. Jim also successfully prosecuted an action against an insured who contended that it did not need to provide the insurer with pre-suit notice of a claim that the insured thought could be resolved within the insured’s self-insured retention. Jim successfully defended the District Court’s decision in the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Jim has litigated coverage issues throughout the United States and regularly advises clients before matters ripen into litigation. Jim’s insights into coverage issues have helped numerous clients avoid costly litigation through early dispute resolution. Jim takes a proactive approach with his clients and advises clients about ways to improve claims handling practices and/or policy forms to avoid possible future coverage disputes.
