License transactions can take many forms and can deal with any manner of intellectual property; for instance, licenses can be exclusive or nonexclusive, they can be local, national, international or worldwide in scope and can deal with a single claim of a single patent or a package of multiple patents, copyrights and trade secrets. They range from simple fairly standardized arrangements to highly complex arrangements, and often form an important component of research and development agreements, strategic alliances and joint ventures.License transactions raise a host of different commercial, contract and intellectual property-related issues.
